George Soros Sets Charity Up For Success With Massive Donation.

There are few people in the realm of politics that can claim to be as active in philanthropy as George Soros. Scratch that, there are few people in the world who have done as much for philanthropic giving as George Soros. Soros is a billionaire progressive who became famous in the early ’90s when he daringly shorted the British pound. Since attaining his massive global fortune, Soros has been working steadfastly to make sure that he does his part in the hunt to uphold the most important values that he believes in. Soros is the founder of the philanthropic group known as the Open Society Foundations and recently he made headlines around the world when financial disclosures revealed that Soros had donated nearly $18 BILLION to charity over the past two years.

George Soros has made it a personal mission to help spread as much positivity in the world as possible. This is, of course, what led Soros to found the Open Society Foundations, to begin with. The OSF was created by Soros in response to the works of Karl Popper, which Soros had studied so thoroughly while attending the London School of Economics. Popper had written extensively on the idea of the Open Society and how the very nature of capitalism was antithetical to a more open, complete, and fulfilled world. So, Soros created the OSF in the ’70s as a charity that gave out grants to grassroots foundations around the world who were determined to spread certain characteristics. What the Open Society Foundations focuses on, simply put, is freedom of expression, government transparency, artistic freedom, equality and social justice.

Over the past several years it has become abundantly clear that there is a directive put in place by right wing media to discredit the massive philanthropic work that Soros is doing. This is evidenced most clearly by the way that Soros was lambasted by conservative media for giving his wealth away to charity. Media pundits on predominantly right-wing networks called Soros a ‘puppeteer’ and that he was building a ‘progressive Death Star’, never once stopping to see just how much of a positive impact that Soros was making. This concentrated demonization of liberal philanthropy has not been a mistake and it is just a further fissure in the rapidly rapturing divide between members of the right and members of the left in American politics.

With all of that being said, George Soros has never been the kind of man to back down from what he believes in. Growing up in Hungary during the Nazi occupation opened up Soros’ eyes to the reality of a fight-or-die mentality. Soros saw Nazis march into town and he saw his own friends and family members hauled off and killed for nothing more than who and what they were born as. Soros has held tight to this life lesson and he has used it every step of the way as a guidepost in order to find what is right and to do the right thing.
